Is Childhood Obesity Child Abuse?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Burbank, California - Childhood Obesity is skyrocketing. It is not only a national problem, but a global epidemic. And is destroying the health, welfare and future of our nation's children. With no end in sight.

The facts and statistics are alarming:

According to research, over 1 billion people are overweight worldwide. The obesity rate in children has tripled in the last 30 years. Over 9 million children in the United States are considered obese. Included is over 20% of children under the age of 12. For toddlers under the age of 5, obesity levels have tripled to over 13% in the same amount of time. Over 30 percent of major health and medical problems are a result of Obesity, which include heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, gall bladder disease and asthma. Hospital costs for children have quadrupled in the last 20 years. Childhood Obesity now results in Obesity at the adult stage as much as 70 percent. And if one of the child's parents is obese, that rate jumps to over 80 percent. Childhood obesity leads to antisocial and depressive tendencies, which leads to lifetime psychological effects. With this growing global epidemic, what can be done to change the world and save children's lives?

Ms. Dockery's reference book is the first of its kind to show a direct link between Childhood Obesity and Child Abuse. Childhood obesity is a preventable medical disorder that fulfills the legal definition of Child Abuse. Through extensive research, and finding that it captures the lives of children and is transferred to adulthood, remaining a constant lifelong problem, this book shows and educates the reader that Childhood Obesity could and should be considered a legalized form of Child Abuse.

I feel like I am in the mist of evil in this world. I am enveloped in the "Center Of Evil". I need to figure out someway for my goodness to expand and shatter the evil around me and dissolve all its part. This can be attempted by examples of kindness to animals and activism against the constant killing and torture of them in everyway including eating, wearing, and experimentation.

The Auction

The Auction
Written by Jack Truman

I was driving down the road on a Thursday night
Saw a sign along the way, said 'Auction tonight';
Didn't have a thing to do; had a minute to kill or tow;
So I figured I'd see what they had inside.

When I pulled around the corner to the auction house;
Saw a lot of people sittin' in the front yard;
Saw a hippie on a bench; a lady again a fence;
I reckon an auction brings all types around.

The auction always has a thing or two around;
They say one man's trash is another's treasure found;
It's entertainment for a few; something to do;
The auction tends to make you come around.

Saw a dirty old fella sortin' through some trash;
A little old lady looking through knick knacks;
A guy plugged something in; then he rubbed his chin;
That's about the time the auctioneer stepped in.

He yelled, 'Come on, boys, let's get this thing started;
We got a lot of things to get on through';
The people gathered 'round; a fella picked something off the ground;
That's when the auctioneer said 'give me two'.

The auction always has a thing or two around;
The say one man's trash is another's treasure found;
It's entertainment for a few; something to do;
The auction tends to make you come around.

I heard the bidding go for an hour, then two;
We all made our way inside; and sat there for a few;
The junk, it came and went; money got bid and spent;
That auctioneer, he he knew just what to do.

I couldn't believe the time that passed before my eyes;
A lot of time and pleasure, sitting, hypnotized;
You wouldn't believe the way people carried on;
Laughin' or cussin' about a thing they bid on.

I left the auction late that night; it was dark outside and cold;
I hopped into my truck; and headed down the road.
I thought about the auction, and all the treasures there;
What first seemed like trash had value in each chair.

The auction always has a thing or two around;
The say one man's trash is another's treasure found;
It's entertainment for a few; something to do;
The auction tends to make you come around.

CARVER DOCUMENTARY FILM TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Award-Winning Short Film Releases on DVD to Celebrate Black History Month

Burbank, California – A man born into slavery changed the world with the peanut.

PEANUT MAN, the award winning documentary short film, is being released this month on DVD to celebrate Black History Month. A 3 minute short documentary film about the life of innovative scientist and inventor George Washington Carver, PEANUT MAN tells the story of a simple man who was born into slavery and became a scientist, teacher, inventor and innovator to the world with what was considered the lowliest of plants.

Carver was a man in history who showed that anyone can accomplish anything”, Director Jack Truman stated in press materials. “This is a man who was born a slave in the Ozarks in the 1800's, who became the first black man to get a college degree, the first black man to teach college, and the first black man to be honored by Congress. I grew up in Southwest Missouri, 30 miles from his birthplace. His story has been in my hometown backyard for years waiting to be told. This is a very personal film for me as a filmmaker. This simple man became a consultant to historical figures such as Henry Ford, Einstein and Stalin. Here is a man who has earned his place in history. His story needs to be told.”

The award-winning short film premiered last fall at the Imagine Science Film Festival in Brookln, and has screened at film festivals across the country. Last month, PEANUT MAN screened at the Kidz Film Festival in New Jersey. Now releasing on DVD to celebrate Black History Month, PEANUT MAN will now be available to educational institutions and private viewers around the world.

Our Painful World - From Featured Author Opal Dockery

Today's blog from featured author/writer Opal Dockery:

OUR PAINFUL WORLD

Pain surrounds me. Everywhere I look, I see things made form leather or people eating animals (meat). I feel so bad to be involved in such suffering – constantly! I am involved just by being a part of this painful animal – cruelty world. I hope that someday this will change. I want to do more than hope. I want to be a part of the change.

When I think about all the pain in the world, it saddens me. I know people are hungry, children are abused and sexually assaulted, and the list goes on. We are all aware of these problems, and efforts are made to help alleviate the sufferings. But everyone knows that not enough is being done.

One type of suffering we all overlook is that which has to do with animals. They suffer constantly; but nobody hears their cries. They are born to be butchered and eaten or whatever else our so-called “humanity” decides to do with them.

People talk about animals' rights while they are eating their steaks. Greenpeace activists forget that the tuna, also, has feelings even though it cannot cry like the Dolphin.

If we see a slight resemblance such as monkeys being experimented on or hear a cry similar to ours such as the Dolphin, then we feel that these animals should not be killed or tortured. But the other animals have feelings, too – even though they cannot express it to us in order for us to understand.

But I understand and so do many others like me. The killings and the murders must be stopped the pain and suffering must cease. When you bite into your steak, think about the pain suffered for this one bite. Oh, yes, was the animal male or female? What is the number of different animal's flesh all jumbled together that you are eating?

How can a person love their pets and still be a meat eater?

We have enough food in our society, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains that we do not have to resort to the ignorance of being a meat-eater.

We should lift our heads high and rise above the ignorance of our ancestors. We should study health and realize that meat is not a food and is bad for our bodies. Most cholesterol problems would cease if we stopped eating meat. We must search our hearts and souls and come face to face with the fact that we are basically good, and gentle people. We are not slaughterers and murderers. We must figure out a way to let the animals live!
